Bando Delivers Walk-Off Win for Mermen
|
The Newcastle Mermen topped the Amarillo Warheads, 5-3, in USSL Rookie action at Newcastle Stadium. The player of the game was Newcastle pitcher and Morant Bay, Jamaica native Joel Plowden. Newcastle reliever Fernando Robles got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Ánibal Ortíz was tagged with the loss. The loss drops Amarillo to 2-1.
Mitsuhide Bando contributed to the Newcastle win with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the tenth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"We take it day by day here," said Plowden, "and today was a good one for us."
