Shockers Beat Centennial, 4-1
|
It was a good time at ïAbbots Ballpark, where fans came to watch the Fort Knox Centennial and Surprise Shockers get after it.
Surprise rode a good effort from starter Tony Castro to beat the Fort Knox Centennial at ïAbbots Ballpark. The final score was 4-1. Castro, now 6-4, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Nathan Bernard earned the save, his 6th, for the Shockers.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Shockers sent teenager Esteban León to the plate against Centennial hurler António Castro. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 1-0 circle change to score 2.
"I like what I saw today," said Surprise manager Eric Henley, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
With the win, Surprise has a record of 25-32. Fort Knox falls to 29-28.
