Shockers Beat Elephants, 4-2
|
The Surprise Shockers saddled the Gibtown Elephants with a loss at ďAbbots Ballpark. The final score was 4-2. António Amaya, named player of the game, was 3 for 4, including 2 singles and 1 home run. The Surprise right fielder scored 1 run and drove in 3. Luis Flores, who went 6.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 2-1. The win lifts Surprise to a record of 9-8.
Amaya contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Surprise in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-0, Amaya took a fastball from Gerrit Zuidgeest and stroked the home run to left. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Shockers to leap in front, 3-2.
"I thought we played a nice game," Amaya told the Surprise Daily News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
