The Surprise Shockers did just enough to sneak past the Gibtown Elephants, 4-3, at ïAbbots Ballpark. Surprise second baseman Yo Tu earned player of the game honors. The winner was Paul Cunningham in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Wayne Quint took the loss. Tao Seto finished the game for Surprise and earned his 4th save.
Lao Tian went 1 for 3 with a walk for Surprise. The 19-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off Wayne Quint. It was his 5th walk of the season.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Gibtown manager Harris Bailey, "let me know."
The win takes Surprise to 8-8.
