It should've been the best of times, but it was more like the worst for the Ladue Rams: opening the season before the home crowd at Ballpark of Wellsville with a real dud. Ladue was never in it, losing 14-1 to the Surprise Shockers. Earning player of the game accolades was Surprise second baseman Yo Tu.

The Shockers beat the Rams with some clutch hitting. The single by Juan Ibarra in the top of the second is a good example. With two down, Ibarra gave his team the lead, 1-0, when he came through with the big hit.

"Enjoyed this one," Tu told the Surprise Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
