The South Beach Blaze defeated the Phoenix Hotspur U-21, 3-1, in USPL Single A action at The Ballpark on the Beach, with South Beach pitcher Shaun Mahle named player of the game. In 5.1 innings, Mahle surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. The save was credited to Carlos Cardoso, his 2nd.
Kenny DeWitt, who is tied for 4th in the PA in triples with 5, helped out the South Beach cause in the bottom of the seventh inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the catcher was 2-4 with a double.
"Feels good to get the job done," DeWitt said after the game.
South Beach is now 38-36.
