Kallio Helps Columbia Cruise to 11-3 Win
|
The Columbia River Rats beat the Phoenix Hotspur U-21, 11-3, at Hotspur Kiddie Complex. Columbia second baseman Petri Kallio earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Wei Shan earned the win for Columbia. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 6-3. The save went to Gong Chin, his 7th this season.
José Palma's at-bat in the top of the ninth inning was a big one for Columbia. Coming to bat with two out, the bases loaded and Columbia leading 7-3, the third baseman hit a bases-clearing double.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Columbia manager Bill Beasley.
Columbia goes to 42-21. The win puts them 5 games up in their division.
