BC Come Up Short at Gwinnett County
|
Gwinnett County and Put-In-Bay duked it out at Pipers Ballpark and the Black Cats came out victorious.
The Gwinnett County Black Cats picked up a win at Pipers Ballpark, knocking off the Put-In-Bay BC, 4-3. Starting pitcher Esteban Rodríguez was an essential part of his team's success. Rodríguez got the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 6 hits and walked 3 over 7.2 innings. Rodríguez allowed 1 earned run. Henry Henry closed the door for Gwinnett County, picking up his 8th save of the year.
The Black Cats beat the BC in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Rod Shortall produced in the bottom of the sixth. Batting against Put-In-Bay pitcher Eric Alderliesten, Shortall gave his team a 4-3 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
Shortall expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
Gwinnett County, at 23-17, occupies third place in the Premier A.
