Tony Alfonso pitched a gem to lead Chicago to a 3-1 victory over the Richardson City Thundercats. In 7 innings, Alfonso surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Dan Crowder closed the game out for Chicago, earning his 3rd save.

Noel Ballard had a big run-scoring single for the Gold Sox in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Chicago leading 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he got a cutter from Shunen Takahashi and stroked the single to left. It was his 19th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gold Sox ahead, 3-1.

"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Ballard told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."

With their winning streak at 9, the Gold Sox have raced to a strong start this season.
