Generals Top U-24, 8-3
|
The Washington Generals beat the Athletic Club KC U-24, 8-3, at Washington Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Fernando Acevedo, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1-3 with a double and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Sherman Harrison closed the game out for Washington, earning his 19th save. Washington now owns a record of 33-36.
In the bottom of the first, Mike O'Neil hit a 2-run single for Washington. The 11th hit of the season for the Washington catcher put the Generals on top, 2-0.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" O'Neil told the Washington Bulletin. "You win just by scoring more runs."
