Victory Over Stingers Takes Northern Virginia to 69-38
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Toledo Stingers at Pacesetter Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Ricardo García, who captured player of the game honors. In 7 innings, García surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Mark Valle converted his 18th save in 22 tries.

The Rainbow Mermaids got a big at-bat from center fielder Ty Tomblin. For the game, Tomblin was 1-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the top of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 28th double of the season gave Northern Virginia a 4-2 lead.

"We've got a great group of guys," García said, "and we're having fun right now."

The Rainbow Mermaids have an impressive 69-38 record.
