The Asheville Highlanders topped the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 5-2, in USPL Double A action at Asheville Park. The player of the game was Asheville pitcher Marvin Wasmund. The winning pitcher was Wasmund, now 2-2. He tossed 5 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Asheville is now 55-46.
The Highlanders got a big at-bat from shortstop Yves Girard. For the game, Girard went 1-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 14th double of the season gave Asheville a 4-2 lead.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Girard told the Asheville Observer.
