The Springfield Shooters did just enough to sneak past the Lake Minnetonka Love Boats, 2-1, at Heron Field. Springfield pitcher Gabriel Valenzuela earned player of the game honors. Valenzuela, the winner, moves to 3-5. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. Dermot Eridge was called on to finish, recording his 7th save.
Tied up with the Love Boats in the top of the fourth inning, the Shooters got a boost from catcher Young-hoon Im. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Im saw a 1-2 fastball from Dylan Telford and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Springfield on top, 2-1.
"Runs were at a premium," said Springfield manager John Carney.
At 42-53, Springfield is in 8th place in the Premier AA.
