The Chesapeake Continentals topped the Springfield Shooters, 5-3, in USPL Double A action at Springfield Stadium. The player of the game was Chesapeake second baseman Mathias Gudmestad. Keith Johnson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save. The Continentals improved to 46-41.

Gudmestad had a game-changing single in the top of the sixth. On a 2-0 fastball from Andrew Jamison, he banged a 2-run single to center, giving the Continentals a 4-3 lead. It was the 19th hit of the year for Gudmestad.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Gudmestad told the Chesapeake Daily News.
