The Asheville Highlanders got a superb performance from pitcher Jacob Broome. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Richland. The Rails won the game, 3-0. In spite of the loss, Broome was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. The Rails improved to 33-48.

The Rails had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the eighth. The score was 3-0, Richland, with no one out. Asheville, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Jeffery Simpson dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch sinker, he flied out.
