Continentals Clip Screaming Eagles in Tight Contest
The Chesapeake Continentals topped the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles by the score of 7-6, with the biggest share of the credit going to left fielder Peer van Lochem. van Lochem went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Continentals on the day. Kenny Makris got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. The Continentals now have a mark of 39-38.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Chesapeake trailing 6-5, Wes Griffith hit a fastball from Victor Lustig to left for a 2-run home run. Just like that, the Continentals had a walk-off win.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Griffith, "but we got it done."
