Highlanders Clip Continentals in Tight Contest
|
The Asheville Highlanders overcame a good performance by Chesapeake first baseman Raphaël Duval to knock off Chesapeake, 5-4, at Chesapeake Grounds. Duval was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Asheville, at 32-31, occupies 4th place in the Premier AA.
Jeffery Simpson had the most critical at-bat for Asheville. With no one in the top of the ninth inning, Simpson hit a 1-1 fastball from Francisco Torres for a run-scoring single. It put Asheville in front, 5-4.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Chesapeake manager Joe Richard. "But we decided not to take it."
