Loss to Continentals Extends Phoenix Hotspur Losing Streak
|
The Chesapeake Continentals took Phoenix Hotspur pitcher Larry Souder's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Grenadiers Ballpark. The final score had Chesapeake getting past the Youth, 4-3. Souder went 8 innings and allowed 4 earned runs, striking out 8. Francisco Torres finished the game for Chesapeake and earned his 1st save. Phoenix Hotspur's current losing streak has reached 17 games.
Had Jim MacRach not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, MacRach hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Continentals.
"It was our day today," MacRach told the Chesapeake Daily News. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
