Youth Continue Skid Thanks to Scantlebury, Highlanders
|
Behind a solid performance from first baseman Arturo Scantlebury, the Asheville Highlanders defeated the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 10-4. Scantlebury went 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Highlanders. Derek Patton was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Phoenix Hotspur's current losing streak is now 10 games.
Roberto Flores had a big run-scoring single for the Highlanders in the bottom of the second inning. With Asheville trailing 2-0 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a changeup from José Santiago and stroked the single to center. It was his 10th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Highlanders ahead, 2-1.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Barry Embling said.
