Asheville Highlanders starter Allen Duer was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 2-0. Duer went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 4, and struck out 1. His record improves to 2-2. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Malulani Anakone.
Ed Lastinger had a big run-scoring double for the Highlanders in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Asheville leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a cutter from Alberto Solís and stroked the double to right-center. It was his 3rd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Highlanders ahead, 2-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Duer told a Asheville Observer reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
The Youth, now 14-24, have lost 9 straight.
