Phoenix Beats Atlanta, 6-2
|
The exploits of first baseman Tadayoshi Watanabe, who is on pace for 74 RBI this season, helped the Phoenix Hotspur defeat the Atlanta Smoke, 6-2. Watanabe went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Miguel Rubia earned the win to go to 6-9. He allowed 2 earned runs on 10 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. The save was credited to Santiago Alonza, his 3rd.
Phoenix grabbed the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, when Watanabe, who is tied for 4th in the PL in doubles with 23, hit a solo home run. His 18th home run of the season put the Hotspur out in front, 3-2.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Phoenix manager Michael Esposito. "Our pregame was pretty good."
With the win, Phoenix has a record of 41-54. Atlanta falls to 42-53.
