|
Asheville beat Phoenix Hotspur at Asheville Park, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to second baseman Quindarious Monday, who earned player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Asheville reliever Dave Haynes picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Abdel Alamini absorbed the loss. The Youth have now dropped 8 straight.
Late-game drama came in the bottom of the 11th inning. With one out and a runner on 1st, the batter, Tony Walsh, hit a double. It helped Asheville seize the win.
"Everyone's trying too hard," said losing manager Junior Benítez. "If we learn to relax, we'll be fine."
