The Lake Minnetonka Love Boats got a good effort from starter Dylan Telford in defeating the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles at Heron Field. The final score was 4-2. With the win, Lake Minnetonka has a record of 22-13. Mercer Island falls to 24-11.
Had Michael Sweeney not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Sweeney hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Love Boats.
Telford expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
