Miners Turn Back Chesapeake, 6-4
|
Fans who gathered at Chesapeake Grounds saw a good contest between the Marquette Miners and Chesapeake Continentals.
Chesapeake first baseman Raphaël Duval had a good game, even if his team did not. The Continentals dropped a 6-4 decision to Marquette at Chesapeake Grounds. Duval was 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. James Bennett was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Félix Santiago closed the door for Marquette, picking up his 5th save of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Marquette, had it not been for Theron Montecalvo, the 23-year old second baseman . Montecalvo contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fourth inning to put Marquette up, 5-3.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Montecalvo said after the game.
Marquette is now 14-17.
