Bernard goes 4-for-4 as Hotspur Squeeze Past Boston
|
The Phoenix Hotspur turned back the Boston Patriots, 7-6, at Chase Field. Pierre Bernard was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. José Ruíz got the win, improving to 2-3. He worked 8 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. Phoenix is now 39-53, while Boston is 46-46.
Bernard contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Phoenix in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 4-3, Bernard took a fastball from Ralph McKinney and stroked the home run to left. His 7th home run of the season allowed the Hotspur to leap in front, 6-4.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Bernard.
