|
The Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds beat the Jersey City Tritons, 6-3, at Jersey City Grounds. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Francisco Alfaro, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. Gerald Bolton, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. His record now stands at 1-1. Bo Tubbs earned the save for Ellenburg, his 8th of the year.
Alfaro had a game-changing single in the top of the sixth. On a 0-1 knuckleball from Iwane Chihara, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Fighting Dachsunds a 4-3 lead. It was the 27th hit of the year for Alfaro.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Fighting Dachsunds manager José Vázquez. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Ellenburg is now 31-48.
