Stingers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Rainbow Mermaids
The Toledo Stingers turned back the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 5-4, at Atlantica. Alfredo Martínez was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Rob Silva was the winner. Over 8 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Toledo is now 35-36. Martínez had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 0-1 fastball from Iván García, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Stingers a 5-4 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Martínez.
