Fenix Come Up Short at Grafton
|
The Grafton Middies did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the New Jersey Fenix at Field of the Middies. Nobody did more than pitcher Don Blessing, who captured player of the game honors. The winning pitcher was Blessing, now 4-5. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 6. Kenete Daku was credited with the save for Grafton, his 19th of the season.
Grafton took control in the bottom of the seventh. With no one out and a runner on 1st, Jerry Yates hit a run-scoring double to make it 4-3, Middies.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Yates said.
Grafton, at 30-45, occupies 9th place in the Third League.
