Lakers Edge Past Fenix, 2-1
|
The New Jersey Fenix got a sterling performance from pitcher Jimmy O'Flahavan, but the Lakers still prevailed, 2-1. O'Flahavan was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. Echo Park reliever William DeWitt picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-2. Jimmy O'Flahavan was collared with the loss. The Lakers saw their win-loss record go to 21-37. At the same time, the Fenix fell to 37-21.
António López was the walk-off hero for Echo Park. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lakers catcher hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"What an ending!" said a jubilant López.
