Great Day for Mathes in Targaryens Win
|
Behind a solid performance from center fielder Charles Mathes, the Royse City Targaryens defeated the Tremont Doubledays, 8-1. Mathes was 2 for 2 with a home run and a double. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Targaryens. Royse City is now 50-34.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the seventh, with the game tied, Barney Heise was at the plate when Royse City scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Targaryens to go in front, 1-0.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Heise told the Royse City Daily News.
