The Boston Patriots defeated the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 3-1, in United States Premier League action at Atlantica, with Boston pitcher John Kaufman named player of the game. The Patriots now own a record of 24-27.
Had Stanley van de Ven not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases empty, van de Ven hit a solo home run. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Patriots.
"It feels good to get this one," Kaufman told the Boston Herald.
