Smoke Slip Past Brooklyn, 5-4
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers got a superb performance from pitcher Pedro Alejándrez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Atlanta. The Smoke won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Alejándrez was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Atlanta reliever Kazuo Hamada picked up the win, upping his record to 1-3. John Bailey shouldered the loss. Atlanta now owns a record of 21-26.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the 11th. With Atlanta trailing 4-3, Albert Morán hit a fastball from John Bailey to right for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Smoke had a walk-off win.
Morán called the extra-inning win a "confidence builder."
