The Durham Rapiers defeated the Bethesda Atoms, 3-1, in USSL Double A action at Atoms Field, with Durham pitcher Felipe Melgar named player of the game. Melgar, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. Arturo Durán earned the save for Durham, his 3rd of the year.

Had Tomás Costello not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Costello hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Rapiers.

"It feels good to get this one," Costello told the Durham News.

Durham, now 6-4, has gotten their season off to a good start.
