Florida pitcher Earl Simmons gave the Belugas all they could handle, but in the end, Brinkley left Psychos Ballpark with a 2-1 win. Simmons allowed no earned runs on 3 hits over 5.1 innings. Brinkley reliever Isaac Steel was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Earl Simmons took the loss for Florida. Austin Aries got the save, the 15th for him this season.
Brinkley used the timely hitting of Martín Alejadre to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Belugas on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Alejadre.
Brinkley occupies second place in the Menard's AAA at 50-27.
