|
Port Royal got a terrific performance from pitcher Miguel Angel Martínez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Brinkley Belugas. Brinkley won the Ballpark of Port Royal contest, 5-3. Martínez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball. The winner was Juan Montoya, who threw 95 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 9 hits. The save went to Carlos Rosales, his 2nd this season.
Had Arana Sashi not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Sashi hit a bases-clearing double. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Belugas.
"It was a solid team effort," said Sashi after the game.
The Belugas have an impressive 20-12 record.
