The inspired effort of Alaskan shortstop Erik Sterk was not enough to prevent a 6-5 loss to the Brinkley Belugas. Sterk went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Luis Hernández was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. The Belugas, now 6-2, have hit the ground running this season.
Rubén Campos had a big run-scoring double for the Belugas in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Brinkley trailing 4-2 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Francisco Barrios and stroked the double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Belugas ahead, 4-3.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Campos said after the game.
