Almost There: Northern Virginia On Cusp of R2032 Triumph After 3-1 Win
Game was big. So was Raúl Gómez.

The Northern Virginia starter rose to the occasion at Evergreen Park today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Rainbow Mermaids to a crucial 3-1 victory over the Portland Evergreens. Gómez threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball as the Rainbow Mermaids won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Round 2032.

The Evergreens had little chance against Gómez, who overpowered Portland hitters and struck out 11.

"We'll savor this win," Gómez told the Northern Virginia News, "then get ready for the next game."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Evergreen Park in Portland. The scheduled starters for the game are Aurelio López for Northern Virginia and Giovanni Mireles for Portland.
