Goodine, South Beach Start PL A Championship Strong with Home Win
|
The South Beach Blaze started the PL A Championship in style today, downing the visiting Washington Generals at The Ballpark on the Beach by a score of 5-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Blaze second baseman Bart Goodine was named player of the game after he went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
In the bottom of the 6th, shortstop Dennis Wacher gave South Beach the lead when he hit a 2-run double. The Blaze had been trailing 4-3, but the two-out double off Washington pitcher Phillip Donoghue changed that -- and South Beach went on to win.
"We lost," Washington manager Jacob Curtis said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in South Beach. The scheduled starters for the game are Juan Carbajal for Washington and Shalom Levasier for South Beach.
