The Syracuse Storm started the SL A Championship in style today, winning on the road against the Connetquot Chiefs at The Big Teepee by a score of 7-6 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Storm third baseman Franck Kooijmans was named player of the game after he went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once.

Kooijmans had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the eighth inning, when he grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Storm went on to win.

Kooijmans told a Syracuse Herald reporter that he was "pleased as punch" with the win.

Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Zach Pinyerrel for Syracuse and Turner Shamburger for Connetquot.
