Rainbow Mermaids Hammered by Vargas, Fall Further Behind in R1
|
The New Amsterdam Dutchmen moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids on the road at Atlantica by a score of 7-5. Dutchmen designated hitter Jorge Vargas was named player of the game after he was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The win gives the Dutchmen a - advantage in the best-of- Silver League Championship.
Had Ricardo Pérez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Pérez hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Dutchmen.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Pérez told a New Amsterdam Bulletin reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
