Big Day at the Plate for Rivera Not Enough for BC
|
The Las Vegas Flamingos had to overcome a big game from Philadelphia 1776 third baseman Fernando Rivera to leave Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum with a 7-6 victory. Rivera went 3-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Las Vegas reliever Ernest Torres was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Carlos Ramos took the loss for Philadelphia 1776. Las Vegas is now 16-11. Philadelphia 1776 is 11-16.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Sake van Arem came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Philadelphia 1776 pitcher Carlos Ramos, he hit a 2-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Las Vegas on top, 7-6.
"We found a way to get it done," van Arem said.
