Guzzlers Get Past Gwinnett County for 4-3 Win
|
Galesburg beat Gwinnett County on the strength of starter Jami Haakana's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-3 win. Cristián Moreno picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-2. Ramón Serrano was tagged with the loss. Galesburg occupies second place in the Premier A at 36-23.
Had Louie Vipont not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Vipont hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Guzzlers.
Gwinnett County manager Kenny Billings said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
