Herons Shut Out Mango
|
Mango Yard was the site for USSL Single A action featuring the Provo Mango and Hammond Herons.
Tom Hegedus never let Provo get something going. The Hammond left-hander commanded his slider in pitching the Herons to a 3-0 win. Hegedus, the winner, moves to 2-11. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks.
Tonito Lamoste, who is tied for 8th in the SA in bases on balls with 39, aided the Hammond cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh. For the game, the shortstop went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk.
Afterward, Herons manager Davis Burt was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Even with the win, the Herons have a dismal 23-65 record.
