Yellowknife starter Evan Groenevelt pitched effectively against the Hammond Herons at The Heron Refuge. The right-hander led his team to a 5-2 win. The winning pitcher was Groenevelt, now 6-5. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. Hammond now has a 5-game losing streak.

A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the seventh inning when the Dragonblood sent teenager Gerrie Bond to the plate against Herons hurler Stan Wells. With runners on 1st and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 2-2 cutter to score 1.
