Both teams had their chances, but the Delaware 1787 BC eventually prevailed at Storm Park.
The Delaware 1787 BC did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the Syracuse Storm at Storm Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Kent Horton, who captured player of the game honors. The save went to Amando Codes, his 7th this season.
Had Carlos Mendoza not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Mendoza hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the 1787 BC.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Syracuse manager Chad Hess.
The Storm, now 31-21, have lost 4 in a row.
