Herons Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The Delaware 1787 BC got a superb performance from pitcher Blair Wright, but the Hammond Herons still won the game, 4-2. Wright was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 9 innings of 7-hit ball. Stan Wells picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Blair Wright was tagged with the loss. Curt Wright picked up the save, his 2nd.
The Herons got a big at-bat from second baseman Marvin Overbeek. For the game, Overbeek went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Hammond a 4-2 lead.
"It feels good to get this one," Overbeek told the Hammond Today.
Losses have been few and far between for the 1787 BC so far this season. Their record drops to 4-2.
