Mt. Vernon Topples Mancelona, 8-4
|
The Mt. Vernon Bulls topped the Mancelona Torch, 8-4, with youngster Rich Watkins playing a key role. Watkins went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Bulls in the win. Ken Borrego picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 7. On the season, he is now 3-1. Shadi Zafar picked up the save for Mt. Vernon, his 2nd of the year.
Watkins had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, when he hit a bases-clearing double. The Bulls went on to win.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Watkins. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Mt. Vernon is now 42-50, while Mancelona is 45-47.
