Airmen Get Close Win Over Bulls
|
Mt. Vernon got a terrific performance from pitcher Andrew Valdés, but it wasn't enough to beat the Alameda Airmen. Alameda won the Alameda Field contest, 3-2. Valdés was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings allowing 1 run. Alameda reliever Santiago Rivera picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Curt Orser absorbed the loss. The Bulls, at 34-34, have lost 4 in a row.
Vonne Navarrete hit a run-scoring triple off Curt Orser in the bottom of the ninth, which put the Airmen in front, 3-2. Navarrete had 2 singles, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 3 for 5.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Alameda manager John Muńóz. "It's usually not just one thing."
