Thrilling Walk-Off Win for Highlanders
|
The Tacoma Fur Traders got a superb performance from pitcher Daniel Ryan. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Asheville. The Highlanders won the game, 2-1. In spite of the loss, Ryan was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Asheville reliever Rex Hood picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Pedro Pérez was saddled with the loss. The slumping Fur Traders have lost 14 straight.
Late in the game, right fielder Marcos Rico had a big at-bat for Asheville. In the bottom of the tenth, he hit a run-scoring single off Francisco Luevanos. The play gave the Highlanders a 2-1 lead.
"The old adage is true," said Rico. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
