Highlanders Stymie Springfield, Take 2-0 Win
|
The Asheville Highlanders went home winners at Asheville Park, thanks in large part to starter Jim Eisenmenger. Eisenmenger silenced the Springfield Shooters, enabling Asheville to grab the 2-0 win. Eisenmenger, now 3-4, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. Bob Grzelak was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 8 save opportunities.
The Highlanders got a big at-bat from shortstop Víctor Hernández. For the game, Hernández went 1-3. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 38th hit of the season gave Asheville a 1-0 lead.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Eisenmenger told the Asheville News.
Today's win puts Asheville at 29-50, while Springfield falls to 37-42.
